On one hand, Handel offered London sumptuous and lavish feasts of music; large scale operas, oratorios full of force and grandeur and of course the famous music spectacles of the Royal Fireworks and the Water Music. On the other hand, the more intimate chamber music, solos pieces and works for domestic worship allowed people to savour an equally impressive music in more private settings. This other side of Handel’s musical output offers an insight into this more low-key and personal music-scene of 18th Century London.
