The oratorio King Solomon by G.F. Handel

A major highlight of The Festival of Sacred Arts 2015 in Hallgrimskirkja is the premiere of Handel’s magnificent oratorio Solomon in Iceland.

Solomon, an oratorio in three acts, tells the Old Testament story about the rule of the wise and just king Solomon and includes both the famous judgement of Solomon and the visit from the Queen of Sheba herself. Handel’s admirers are in for a real treat with the oratorio’s grandiose arias and the variety of choir passages, ranging from the regal and joyous to the deeply sorrowful.

There will be two performances of Solomon. The first concert is Saturday August the 15th at 19.00 and the second on Sunday August the 16th at 16.00.

Performing are the Hallgrimskirkja Motet Choir along with the exquisite Hague International Baroque Orchestra and the world renowned English countertenor Robin Blaze. Other soloists are Thora Einarsdottir, Sigridur Osk Kristjansdottir, Benedikt Kristjansson and Oddur Arnthor Jonsson.

Conductor: Hordur Askelsson.
