Music critic Jonas Sen was overjoyed with this weekend´s performance of the oratorio Solomon: A five-star performance he says in the daily paper Frettabladid this morning.
“Absolutely wonderful concert with delectable singing and magnificent playing – Solomon was a revelation – The drama unfolded under Hordur Askelsson´s powerful conducting – Many choir parts were so dashingly performed by the Hallgrimskirkja Motet Choir that it was unavoidable to get goosebumps again and again. The choir is in excellent shape.”
Jonas then praises all the soloists for their singing and the orchestra for their playing and ends his critique saying:
” It is truly a feat to deliver such a long piece to the audience without lulling them to sleep. But the music was a revelation and one enjoyed every single note. The world of the Old Testament sprung to life. Great is the power of the arts! The music life in Hallgrimskirkja really blossoms these days.”
An enthusiastic concert guest told the choir after the concert that he wasn´t tired at all. “I could have listened for two more hours!”
