Kirkjulistahátíð 2013
Þrettánda Kirkjulistahátíðin í Hallgrímskirkju hringsnýst um orgelið í Hallgrímskirkju, orgel sem er stærsta hljóðfæri Íslands, orgel sem hefur í rúm tuttugu ár laðað til sín lærða jafnt sem leika og átt sinn þátt í að koma Hallgrímskirkju inn á heimskort kirkjulistanna. Á tíu dögum, frá 16. til 25. ágúst, verður nýuppgert Klais-orgelið miðpunktur í fjölbreyttri dagskrá. Í höndunum á erlendum organistum í fremstu röð, Douglas Cleveland frá Seattle, Mattias Wagerfrá Stokkhólmi og James McVinnie frá Englandi mun Klais-orgelið opna töfrandi hljóðheim eldri og yngri orgeltónlistar, orgelspuni fær líka sitt pláss. Frá Bandaríkjunum kemur framúrskarandi trompetleikari Steven Burns, sem ásamt Douglas Cleveland organista flytur tónlist fyrir trompet og orgel. Djassleikararnir Sigurður Flosason og Gunnar Gunnarsson heiðra minningu Þorkels Sigurbjörnssonar með spuna í kringum sálmalög hans leikandi á saxófón og orgel.
Nýir og óþekktir möguleikar tölvubúnaðar stóra Klais verða kannaðir á tilraunatónleikum Kippa kanínusar og félaga, þar má búast við að orgelið bregðist við ytra áreiti ljóss og hljóða.
Á Sálmafossi flæðir sálmasöngur og orgelleikur í margar klukku-stundir í tengslum við Menningarnótt, kórar og hljóðfæraleikarar fá kirkjugesti til að taka undir sálmasöng og barnaraddir kynna nýja barnasálma til sögunnar.
Á upphafsdögum hátíðarinnar verður eistneska tónskáldið Arvo Pärt heiðrað með stórtónleikum. Schola cantorum, einsöngvarar og stór strengjasveit flytja dagskrá með trúartónlist þessa heimsfræga tónskálds, m.a. nýtt verk Adam’s lament, sem hefur vakið mikla athygli.
Með sýningunni VATN skapar Guðrún Kristjánsdóttir myndlistarkona myndrænan óð til vatnsins í lífi og trú, sýningin nýtir bæði anddyri og kór kirkjunnar, auk þess sem tónlist Daníels Bjarnarsonar fléttast inn í.
Kirkjulistahátíð 2013 býður alla velkomna að njóta kirkjulista frá uppsprettum til himindjúpa.

The 13th Festival of Sacred Arts will take place on August 16th – 25th 2013 and revolve around the organ, the biggest musical instrument in Iceland, an organ that for over twenty years has attracted professionals as well as enthusiasts and has it’s part in putting Hallgrímskirkja on the world map of the sacred arts. The newly renovated Klais will be the centrepiece of a diverse schedule. It will open the charming world of the sound of older and newer organ music at the hands of foreign organists of the first order; Douglas Cleveland from Seattle, Mattias Wager from Stockholm, and James McVinnie from England, as well as allowing for organ improvisation. The outstanding trumpet-player Steven Burns will be visiting from the USA, and will along with organist Douglas Cleveland perform music for trumpets and organ. Jazz musicians Sigurður Flosason and Gunnar Gunnarsson pay homage to Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson with an improvisation on his hymns, playing the sax and the organ.
New and unknown possibilities involving the computer of the big Klais will be explored at an experimental concert by Kippi kanínus and his mates, where the organ is expected to react to outside stimuli of light and sound.
Hymns and organ music will flow for hours during the Hymnalfall in connection with the city’s cultural night, choirs and musicians entice guests to participate in the singing and children’s voices will introduce new children’s hymns.
At the start of the festival the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt will be honoured with a grand concert. Schola cantorum, soloists and a big string ensemble will perform a program consisting of religious music by this world-famous composer, among them Adam’s lament, a new piece which has been well received.
With her exhibition VATN artist Guðrún Kristjánsdóttir creates a graphical ode to water in life and religion, using both the foyer and choir stalls of the church, and music by Daníel Bjarnason being interwoven with the exhibition.
Festival of Sacred Arts invites everyone to enjoy sacred arts from Primal waters to Celestial abys.
